Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Might Just Get Me Into Musou Games Again

All right, I'll admit it. I don't really like Musou games that much. Outside of the Dragon Quest Heroes games, I've never played one. Mosou, or Warriors-like if you prefer that term, have never really appealed to me all that much. I mostly liked Dragon Quest Heroes because it was Dragon Quest and because it added in RPG elements. Even though I love The Legend of Zelda, I never even bothered with the first Hyrule Warriors. But all of that might change now that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is set to release in November.

Age of Calamity is a prequel to Breath of the Wild, although it's definitely still a part of the Hyrule Warriors spin-off series. That means lots of enemies all at once. If the first Hyrule Warriors is anything to go by, that also means Link won't be the only playable character. The teaser trailer that released yesterday looks great, and it might just get me to play another Musou game.

Why I'm Excited For Age of Calamity

Look, Breath of the Wild was great. Was it a perfect game? No. Was it my favorite Legend of Zelda game? Also no. But it's near the top, and I'd love to explore that version of Hyrule again. Another big draw is getting to play as the Four Champions introduced in Breath of the Wild. Fans love those characters. I love those characters. Heck, I have all their amiibo facing me right now on my desk as I write this. So getting to see them all (and alive) in Age of Calamity is going to be great.

Another big draw is getting to play as Zelda. Fans have wanted a playable Zelda in a mainline game for years, and Breath of the Wild‘s version of the princess is one of the coolest. Getting to take down hoards of bokoblins as Zelda would be fantastic! The footage shown in the teaser looks awesome, and it's only a hint of what's to come.

For whatever reason, I've just never been able to get into Musou games. With Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, I'm going to have to make an exception. The game looks great, and I can't wait to play it when it arrives on Switch on November 20th. Now, if only we can get Skyward Sword on Switch!
