I was going to have Beej write a blurb for this game, but when I asked he just said “STAR WARS PEW PEW PEW”, so… yeah.

The Last Friend – April 7th

I checked this game out on PC back in September, and after a few delays, it's finally heading to Switch! Check it out for cute dogs and tower defense mechanics! It is so much fun, I would absolutely recommend you check this out. While I reviewed it over six months ago, it is still one that I play off and on.

The House of The Dead: Remake – April 7th

Developer MegaPixel Studio (Panzer Dragoon Remake) is updating another beloved Sega classic with House of the Dead Remake. Fill the shoes of agents Thomas Rogan and G (yes, just G) as they battle the mad Dr. Curien's army of grotesque undead creatures. The Switch might not have a light gun peripheral to help accurately recreate the gameplay of the '90s arcade hit, but gryo controls should help approximate the experience. With updated graphics and new modes (“Cowboy” mode, which allows one player to aim a gun with each hand, sounds especially intriguing), the on-rails shooter is sure to please fans old and new.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition – April 7th

The highly polarizing sequel to the beloved SNES RPG, Chrono Trigger, is finally coming back! This is a game that I've watched bits and pieces of in the past (my sister was a fan) but have never gotten a chance to try myself. Even decades later, I still remember the oddball cast of characters and complex time-travel narrative that I only previously witnessed in glimpses. Perhaps the time has finally come to fill this gap in my JRPG resume? Whether you're in the same boat as me or a returning fan, this version of the game includes a neat bonus: Radical Dreamers, a previously-untranslated text-based adventure that further connects Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger. This one is definitely worth checking out for fans of JRPG history.

Chinatown Detective Agency – April 7

Chinatown Detective Agency is an old-school point-and-click adventure game with a unique approach to puzzles – some of them require real-world research. However, this is a much more mature take on this type of game than Carmen Sandiego or Mario Is Missing. I had the pleasure of playing through the demo with Data_Error on my Twitch channel and was intrigued by the mystery story, the setting (Singapore!), and the beautiful pixel art.

Happy's Humble Burger Farm – April 7

I'll be the first to point out that I'm a coward – it takes a lot to get me to play a game with strong horror elements. But I've seen enough of Happy's Humble Burger Farm as played from afar to know that it is an absolute fever dream of a game. While a bit visually clunky, that only adds to its off-kilter aesthetic, and that aesthetic is what carries this game through as something unique. What's more horrifying than having to work a fast-food service job, after all?

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim – April 12

The latest title from developer Vanillaware, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim impressed PS4 owners in 2020 with its ambitious storytelling and gorgeous visuals. The ambitious sci-fi title incorporates aspects of visual novels and real-time strategy for a game like no other. Follow a group of high school students-turned-mecha-pilots as they seek to understand the complicated truths behind a kaiju invasion. With numerous story perspectives and branching points, 13 Sentinels will hold your attention for hours on end as you wait for the next brilliantly preposterous plot revelation to be revealed.

Toodee and Topdee – April 14

I’ve seen this one pop up a few times since it was released on PC. It looks like it’ll fulfill the promise that Super Paper Mario couldn’t, providing a platformer experience that blends 2 different perspectives of gameplay.

Cat Cafe Manager – April 14

Cat Cafe Manager looks adorable with a blend of cats, mysteries, and fixing up a cafe that you inherited. At first glance, it reminds me a lot of a game I played called Calico (which I reviewed for SwitchRPG). I am excited to play this and see how it stacks up!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed – April 20

I’ve never actually played the Wii version of this game, but had a lot of fun playing the 360 version. This rerelease doesn’t look to update the visuals much, but it should still be a fun time!

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe – April 27

The Stanley Parable just keeps on coming back for more. From a little proof-of-concept demo over a decade ago to a fully-realized release, now to a total overhaul and expansion escaping to consoles. This off-kilter meta-exploration game remains a strong cult favorite, and Ultra Deluxe promises to more than double its scope. If you've played before, that's certainly worth a re-visit; if you haven't, this is your jumping-on point.

Transiruby – April 28

Developer Skipmore may be relatively small and new, but time after time it puts out finely-tuned games that ooze charm. Just take Kamiko – it was one of my very first purchases for the fledgling Switch, and it's still a favorite I keep in my back pocket. Transiruby looks to be no different; I fell in love with its gorgeous pixel art and boppin' soundtrack via CapsuleJay's streams. The Switch is hardly hurting for crunchy Metroidvanias or delightful indie titles, but another with its pedigree is always welcome.

… I really feel like I should be excited about this, but I'm just not. Like, not at all? I guess it's maybe just five years late. I'm sure it'll be fine. Heck, it'll probably even be great… I just can't build up much enthusiasm.
