Switch... On!

Nintendo Switch Games to Play in September 2021

Autumn is upon us with all its pumpkin goodness. Hopefully, you got to see a lot of August's new releases, because there are a ton of Nintendo Switch games coming with September's new releases!

Kitaria Fables – September 2

I have been excitedly following the progress of Kitaria Fables ever since it was first announced. An action-adventure RPG with farming and crafting…with ADORABLE animal villagers! The artwork for this game is what first caught my attention. I have it preordered, so expect a review from me soon!

Sokobond – September 2

I'm an absolute sucker for a well-curated puzzle game. And with clean visuals and an elegant hook, Sokobond is exactly that kind of crafty little game. I look forward to trying to play this game for ten minutes, then accidentally playing it for an hour and a half.

Bloodrayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites – September 9

I’ll give any game a shot when it’s genesis is “Wayforward turned a thing that wasn’t a 2D game into a 2D game.” Bloodrayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites‘ take on the Tom Cruise Mummy remake, The Mummy Demastered, is still one of my favorite Switch games.

Olympia Soirée – September 9

Where many otome games are on the softer side – and we adore them for it – Olympia Soiree looks to have an even broader appeal. Without sacrificing the genre's romantic roots, this story promises a strong female lead and a focus on world-building and intrigue. Oh, and that's not to mention some beautiful art and well-cast character performances – what's not to look forward to here?

Ultra Age – September 9

Ultra Age looks like a throwback to the ridiculous, over the top 3rd person action games of the 360 era. I can’t wait to hack and slash my way through it!

WarioWare: Get it Together – September 10

WarioWare has always been fun to play in short bursts, and so are the best pass-the-controller games at get-togethers. This marriage of ideas is a natural fit for the Switch, and whether you plan to play with others or take advantage of the single-player offerings, it's still nice to see WarioWare finally come to the system.

Cruis'n Blast – September 14

I haven’t touched a Cruis’n game since the N64, but I absolutely adored them back in the day. Plus, I’m pretty sure this one lets you be a dinosaur.
– TroytlePower

I gotta just add here, that this game looks amazing, and I can't wait to try it out!!

Catlateral Damage: Remeowstered – September 15

Catlateral Damage: Remeowstered. Be a cat. Climb stuff, knock stuff over, make a mess. You know, be a cat. This is more of a goofy sandbox than a video game that you’ll play to progress through, but it’s a ton of fun.

Eastward – September 16

The art looks great. The music sounds great. The combat looks great. I really think Eastward might be great.

SkateBIRD – September 16

I’ve been hyped on the idea of Tony Hawk but a bird for ages. SkateBIRD got delayed last month, but we’ll finally get our hands on it soon! It’s hitting Game Pass on day 2 for you Xbox folks.

Nexomon – September 17

The original Nexomon is coming to the Switch.

What if not-quite Pokemon but also not quite Digimon? If you can’t wait for the boatload of Pokémon games we’ve got coming this winter, this might hold you over.

TOEM – September 17

I absolute love the art style for Toem, and photography games are a favorite genre of mine. It just looks so dang cute and calm and nice!
– TroytlePower

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot + A New Powers Awakens Set – September 24

This one seemed to flounder a bit when it came to other platforms, but spending a few minutes exploring the world of DBZ here and there on the Switch seems like it might be really nice.
– TroytlePower

Various developers have been trying to do the same thing since 1995: adapt the story of Dragon Ball Z into a video game, to mixed success. Luckily, Bandai has hit on the best iteration of the idea yet, marrying Action-RPG combat with open exploration and an impressive recreation of the show's visuals, especially by the Switch's standards.
I feel obligated to mention that loading times on the PS4 and XBox One versions of this game were quite long – you may want to keep an eye out for reviews of this one.

Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality – September 30

I love Doctor Who. My big blue truck even has a license plate that says TARDIS on it. So, the idea of a new Doctor Who video game excited me. Although, even this close to launch we really don't know much about it.

Hot Wheels Unleashed – September 30

Another off the walls, over the top racing game! I’m really hoping that the environments in this have fun with the fact that you’re racing as itty bitty toy cars.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina – September 30

Melty Blood is something of a cult classic, originally released at Comicket and marrying visual-novel storytelling with a solid pixel-art fighting game. Luckily for international fans, this reboot is getting a simultaneous worldwide release, and a lean-and-mean roster promises a lot of focus on individual characters. Long Live Pixel Art. Coming hot off the success of Under Night In-Birth, there's no reason to believe developer French-Bread will provide anything short of a well-tuned fighter.
