S3E12 – Dumb Movies – “Bad and Glorious”

“Dumb” Movies

In this episode:

  • We talk about movies that are dumb but kind of glorious because of it.  You know, movies where you can shut off your brain, but still enjoy them!
  • We talk about some of our favorites including The Fifth Element, The Fast and the Furious, and the even sillier stuff like 21 Jump Street and the new Jumanji.
  • We’ve talked at length before about movies being successful despite not being great cinema, and that’s what these are. They are meant to be silly, and that’s what we love about them. That’s why we watch them dozens of times.
  • And we also talk about some movies that COULD be dumb and fun, but end up just being bad. We are sad about those because the concept is so good and so dumb. But instead of being the good dumb, they’re just…dumb. Sad times.

Geek Offer of the Week:

  • audibletrial.com/geektogeekcast – The Powder Mage trilogy. Void talks about how great it is, and that it even stands up there with Brent Weeks and Brandon Sanderson books. That’s high praise. You can get it free by clicking the link above, and it will support the podcast, too! Thanks in advance!

Weekly Geekery

  • Beej is has been running and has some new gear he’s trying out! He also watched Valerian, finished Nailed It on Netflix, finished Ready Player One in prep for the movie, and started listening to The Collapsing Empire.
  • Void did some networking (not with people, but with computers), played more Fortnite, tried Warhammer Vermintide 2, Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered, and #Wargames. He also finally got around to starting Altered Carbon and hopes to have it finished by next week.
