Q&A With Our Creators: Elinzia the Crafting Rogue

Throughout our Spring Fever Party we are taking a closer look into the inner workings of our creators. That means… Question and Answer posts!! Get to know these amazing individuals (and groups) a little better. See who you would want having your back during the zombie apocalypse.
Today's Q&A comes to us from Elinzia the Crafting Rogue from … well, everywhere around here. Podcasting at The Nerdberg Review and used to also do My HGTV Addiction. Producing for GtG Evening News. Writing for this site. Writing and designing for Geek to Geek Magazine. Running the Crafting Rogue Etsy store… and more! She stays busy.

Q&a with elinzia picture

1. Who are you? What do you do for Geek to Geek?

Hi! I am Elinzia, the Crafting Rogue. On Geek to Geek I do a little of everything. I am basically Professor Beej's assistant with the website and do a lot of writing for both it and the Geek to Geek Magazine. I also love podcasting on Nerdberg Review with my brother and getting to work on various little projects around here. Oh, and I also run my own Etsy store!

2. How did you start writing/podcasting/streaming?

Originally it all started as I was following in my brother's footsteps! Todd has been podcasting and writing for pretty much our whole lives. He has always been a huge inspiration for me in creative endeavors.

Then, a while back I got sick. Really sick and it wouldn't go away. Turns out I have had Lupus for a very long time and it has completely taken over my life for the time being. Because of it I ended up having to take an extended medical leave from work and found myself suddenly having a lot of extra time. Beej suggested I start writing game reviews before it had ever really occurred to me. I wrote for SwitchRPG for a while and then last Christmas I switched over to Geek to Geek full time.

3. How did you become affiliated with Geek to Geek?

I was their original fangirl. I started listening to the Geek to Geek Podcast with Void and Beej back during their second episode in 2016. From there I was hooked and never missed an episode. My first time actually contacting them was in October 2016. We have been friends ever since.

4. Why would you consider yourself a geek?

I love video games, board games, and dungeons and dragons. As a teenager, I built my first computer out of spare parts from my dad and big brother. I was the girl who played Magic the Gathering and beat my brothers' friends at racing games on weekends. Now, I while my biggest love is still video games, I also have found Dungeons and Dragons and comics. I collect Nintendo stuff to decorate my bedroom and have themed bathrooms (currently one is Portal and the other is World of Warcraft). My pets are named after Borderlands characters. I could go on…

5. Who is your favorite superhero?

This is about 13 of my collection of WW

Wonder Woman. She is focused on kindness but isn't afraid to do what she needs to do to protect others. Diana represents of love for others. She reminds me to be strong.

6. What skills do you have to survive the zombie apocalypse?

I can sew and crochet… but I don't know that yarn bombing a zombie would do much to stop it. I have an awesome dog though who could protect me.

7. What is your favorite type of geekery? (movies, tabletop games, video games, books)

Video games. Hands down. I love being able to escape real life into a virtual world where I can be whoever I want to be. Crochet is a close second… crocheting some awesomely geeky amigurumi while listening to podcasts is soothing to the soul.

8. How did you get into that?

Elinzia and todd playing games

I have played video games since I was a baby. Of course, then my brother gave me a controller that wasn't actually plugged in so I could “play” while he was actually playing the game.

9. How many square feet of pizza can you eat?

Math… uh… probably 2?

10.What is your favorite form of exercise? How will that help with the zombies in question 6?

I love swimming. I love being in the water. As long as there are no sharks. Or scary, creepy things that will grab my legs. Or leeches to pick off me. Basically, I love indoor, heated, clean pools.
That may not help with the zombies. Unless they can be hurt by chlorine?

11.Favorite song?

I love music. If you ever want some suggestions for music, I could easily help you out with that. I currently have 17,018 songs in my iTunes… and there are several more that I want to get.
My favorite though? After All by Collective Soul

12.Star Wars or Star Trek?

I love both, but if forced to choose… Star Wars. I love Princess Leia.

13.Favorite board/card game?

There are SOOOO many I could list here. Single player? Palm Island. Two Player? Code Names Duet. Multiplayer? Munchkin. Nostalgia? Scotland Yard.

14.Super Mario Bros or Zelda?

I am a Zelda girl. I love me some Mario games, of course, but the world of Zelda always gets me. Windwaker is my favorite.

15.Which 3 Geek to Geek members would you want on your team in the zombie apocalypse? Why?

Capsulejay for his fitness (as long as he doesn't just outrun me and leave me for zombies…)
Beej for his creative thinking survival skills from being a writer and D&D player
Todd because he's my brother and I know he'd do anything for me

16.What is the most embarrassing fashion fad you have ever rocked?

There is a picture somewhere out there of me as a preteen and I have a Shirley Temple style perm and am rocking pink polka-dot pants that stop just above my ankles, a pink and purple striped tee-shirt, and those jelly sandals that were a thing once.
I don't think any of that was ever considered a fashion fad though.

17.If aliens asked you to go with them… would you?

Only if it was The Doctor. Especially if it was the tenth Doctor

18.If you could be any character in a video or tabletop game… who would you want to be?

I want to be my Animal Crossing villager! Such a happy, peaceful life. Paying all my debts with apples. Laying on a beach all day long… yah. I could handle that.

19.Favorite Disney movie?

Beauty and the Beast … I want that library.

20.What fruit or vegetable would you prefer for throwing at zombies?

I think it would be fun to throw bananas at them. Seriously, have you ever thrown a banana? It's so satisfying.

21.What was the last TV show you binge-watched?

Downton Abbey

22.If you could be invisible for a day, what would you do?

Hmm… I think I would just be too concerned with whether or not I was having to be naked to be invisible… I mean, what if the invisibility wore off and I was out somewhere completely naked? Trust me, nobody wants that. Plus wouldn't it be cold to be naked wandering around? This girl needs some coverings.

23.What is your favorite snack food?

Dr Pepper and Cheetos. If either of those companies want me to be their spokesperson, I would gladly accept.

24.Name one cool feature you would add to your dream house if you could

I want an olympic size swimming pool. Indoor, heated, and magical so I never have to do anything to clean it or take care of it… it would just always be pristine.

25.What is the most random, rare form of geekery you love?

Crochet and sewing. I love the creativity of amigurumi (as I discussed on an episode of the Geektitude podcast recently) I love creating video game characters as amigurumi, or sewing or quilting with geeky themes and patterns.

Elinzia
